Count weekdays until retirement with an iPhone widget
Use Countdown's Premium weekend-skipping option for a retirement date or project deadline on your iPhone. It counts weekdays, not public holidays, leave, or shifts.
Requires iOS 26 or later. Use the latest Countdown version; button names and placement can vary. Images are product examples, not screenshots of the setup steps.
1. Set the actual target date
Create an event named for retirement or your deadline and enter the target date. Use days as the display unit so the remaining weekdays are easy to read. Check whether you mean your last working day or your first retired day: those are different dates.
2. Enable weekday-only counting
In the event editor, enable the option to skip weekends, then save. Weekday-only counting is a Premium benefit. An ordinary calendar-day countdown remains available free if you do not want to upgrade.
3. Know what the number means
Skipping weekends is not the same as counting your remaining shifts. Do not treat it as subtracting public holidays, leave, or a personal rota. If your working week differs, use the number as a simple weekday countdown, not an official employment or deadline calculation.
4. Keep it visible; check the cost
Add a Countdown Home Screen widget, then hold it and choose Edit Widget to select this saved event. For Lock Screen setup, use the widget guide below. Free includes three events, countdown/count-up, and both widget locations, without ads. Lifetime Premium adds weekday counting, unlimited events, and premium customization with one payment, not a subscription. The app shows your local price.
