Make a photo countdown widget for your next trip
Keep the days until departure beside a favorite destination photo on your iPhone Home Screen. Start with a trip date, not a travel itinerary.
Requires iOS 26 or later. Use the latest Countdown version; button names and placement can vary. Images are product examples, not screenshots of the setup steps.
1. Choose the date you want to see
Create an event in Countdown, name it for your trip, and set your departure date. For a flight at a particular time, set that time too and check the saved date before adding the widget. Choose days for a simple countdown, or weeks or months for a trip further away.
2. Add your own photo
Choose a destination photo in the event editor, adjust its framing, and preview the text over it. Keep the number readable and save the event. The website's style previews are examples; selecting one here does not transfer a preset into the app.
3. Put the trip on your Home Screen
Hold an empty Home Screen area, choose Edit, then Add Widget, and search for Countdown. Choose a size and add it. Hold the widget, choose Edit Widget, and select your saved trip so another upcoming event does not replace it. Lock Screen widgets are also available; their compact layout is different from a photo card.
Free or Premium?
Up to three events, your photos, countdown/count-up, and Home and Lock Screen widgets are free, with no ads. Lifetime Premium is a one-time purchase for unlimited events and premium customization; some looks and extra backgrounds are paid. Weekday-only counting also requires Premium. Check the price and any paid options in the app before saving.
